Making A Statement!

Statement jewelery has been the the favorite trend her for Spring/Summer - whether it’s on the red carpet, on the runway or in stores! Remember how gorgeous Angelina Jolie was at the 81st Annual Academy Awards?? Her black Elie Saab dress and her emerald jade jewelry by Lorraine Shwartz were just fantabulous! I don’t know about you, but nothing creates a statement more than that! Loved it!

So anyways, I know not everyone is lucky enough to purchase a 65 carat Colombian emerald ring from Lorraine Schwartz with matching drop earrings, but you might still be able to copy Angelina’s look for a much cheaper price:

It doesn’t matter what the price, with style, you just gotta “MAKE IT WORK!”

I’m sure most of us are acutely aware of how our daily activities impact our earth. Sure, you alone do not destroy the earth.. however, the billions of people on the planet sure do.

In recent years, many have taken the step to be more environmentally friendly in their lifestyles. Fashion is no exception. More and more designers are taking the step to launch their eco-fashion lines. Styles that are created and produced by using environmentally friendly products that have minimal negative impact on our planet.

So here are a couple of organic fashion and beauty products that were featured on Harper’s Bazaar recently:

The Guide to Bra Sizes

A study done has shown that 85% of women are wearing the WRONG bra size. That is NOT good. We need to remind ourselves that our body is no one elses but our own. So why would we want to be ignorant about ourselves. Our ladies deserve to be taken care of in the best manner possible, getting regular breast ultrasound check ups and also to be fitted into the right bra. We need to put our ladies in the bra with the perfect fit and the bra that most flatters her! Don’t you women agree?

Why is it important to get the right size? Well, that’s because not only does the wrong size and fit affect our posture it also affects the health of our breast tissue. Having it too loose will make our breasts sag and cause posture or back problems meanwhile bras that are too tight might cause bruising, discomfort or even blocked milk ducts.

A great article on how to measure your bra size can be found here.

So I hope you ladies go and get yourself measured and remember! Your bra size has the possibility to change up to 6 times in your lifetime (due to weight loss, weight gain, pregnancy, menopause, etc) so just because you’ve measured once, that you’ve got it pat down.

Anyways, here’s a little something about the guide to bra sizes that I thought would be funny to share with you.

Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style (Part 1)

Make it Work!!!

Now, isn’t that the catch phrase that we always get to hear on EVERY SINGLE episode of Project Runway? Eventhough it gets old or hilarious to take seriously, there IS a reason for Tim Gunn being there. He  know style really well.

tim-gunn.jpg

So anyways, according to Tim Gunn, these are your wardrobe essentials. Your absolute must-haves! Have these in your wardrobe, and you can MAKE IT WORK!

1) LBD (Little Black Dress) - To pull it off during the day, pair it with flats and a jewel-toned cardigan. At night, opt for strappy heels and statement jewelry!

2) Trench Coat - A belted trench coat is essential for those living in colder climates. You can belt it on over your LBD at night and just layer it over your jeans and T during the weekend.

3) Classic Dress Pants - Tim says, “Whether in black, navy, charcoal - a wool or silk pant that falls from the widest part of your hip is a wardrobe MUST!” Pair it with a chic blouse, blazer, flowy silk or chiffon top and you’ll look AMAZING!

4) Versatile Skirt - A skirt that you can dress up with a blazer or dress down with a denim jacket. The length should be no longer than the bottom of your kneecap,  or shorter than just above your knee.

5) Fitted Blazer - Pull it over with a feminine blouse and perfect-fit jeans for the weekend or for work, pair it with a textured skirt.

6) Classic White Shirt - “Whether paired with dress pants, a skirt, or jeans, this item is always polished and sophisticated. Just be mindful of the proper clothing maintenance!” says Tim.

I whole-heartedly agree with Tim Gunn’s must haves list. It’s really great to have these pieces of clothing in our wardrobe and you can be elegantly stylish without worrying about the current trend. These items are positively timeless!

Well, that’s it for Part 1 of Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style here on The Accidental Fashionista. Do stay tuned for Part 2. There will be 5 more pieces of wardrobe essentials to look forward to!

Love,
S.
