Dakota Fanning at L.A. “Push” premiere

dakota2.jpg

Dakota Fanning was looking stunning at the Push movie premiere at the Mann Village Theater in Westwood, Los Angeles recently. The talented young actress who we first saw in “I Am Sam” has grown up to be a beautiful 14-year-old and very well put together. In “Push” she stars with Fantastic Four star, Chris Evans, the gorgeous Camilla Belle as well as Djimon Honsou.

Since becoming a major movie star at such a tender age, Dakota Fanning has already been a face for high fashion when designer Marc Jacobs personally handpicked her to represent his line. She was decked out in couture from Marc Jacobs’ collection that was specially made for her size.

For her action packed movie premiere of Push, her grey/silver origami inspired dress was a perfect choice - elegant, young, fun and fresh! She totally rocked it!

So for young teenage girls out there, take a style cue from Dakota Fanning. You don’t have to dress sexily or much too old for your age to look stunning. Savor your tween years and don’t try to grow up too fast.. ;)

S.

Diane von Furstenberg for Spring 2009 Fashion Week

 0-dvf.jpg

Diane von Furstenberg (DVF for short), has got to be one of my most favorite fashion designers ever! Back in the 70’s, DVF had the vision to create on of the best creations ever for women’s fashion. The jersey “wrap around dress”. Now, isn’t that reason enough to love and adore her??? Back in 2006, I was infinitely close to getting one myself but I didn’t want my husband to go into cardiac arrest. LOL!

Anyways, I have just got to say that DVF’s Spring 2009 Fashion Week collection is absolutely, positively gorgeous! And the itch to own one of DVF’s pieces is stronger than ever! It was all about mixed prints, floaty print chiffon and sheer layers that came together for a boho vibe. Now, what’s good about this year is, there’s no particular trend that is IN at the moment, because you can go for every style, whether it’s DVF’s boho chic or the romantic ruffles, corset tops and appliques of Carolina Herrera, or Lacoste’s voluminous beachy version with sporty sherbert-colored line of great pieces like bodysuits.

So without much further ado, here’s some of DVF’s Spring 2009 Collection that has just hit the runways.

Aren’t they absolutely gorgeous?!?!?! I’d die happy if I had a collection like THAT in my wardrobe! LOL!

IF you still haven’t gotten enough of the collection and want to view more of the DVF’s Spring 2009 Collection you can check it out here.

Hope you feel inspired to revamp your style after viewing the collection!

Men of Style

Published by shemah under Men's Fashion Edit This

I actually love to see men comfortable being in charge of their look and style. Among my favorites are celebrities like Brad Pitt, George Clooney and His Royal Hotness Johnny Depp.

And today, here are a couple of men that I would like to highlight for their style.

081808_laboeuf_400x400.jpg

Shia Lebouf - This Transformers star has definitely gone a long way from his Even Steven days and is looking pretty hot. Growing up in L.A. though has made him crave for comfort, Lebouf says. So even though he digs beautiful Prada suits, he still keeps a collection of his much loved Dodgers hoodies.

061308_bateman_400x400.jpg

Jason Bateman - My favorite actor from Arrested Development credits his wife in telling him what’s right and what’s wrong. So he’s traded in his vintage Ts for more serious button downs. Tucking in his shirt is a big, big step, he says.

030708_butler_400x400.jpg

Gerard Butler - The Ugly Truth star shares some pretty hideous truth with us.. He says, “It’s amazing how much time and effort it takes for me to look rumpled”. I say, he’s HOT! Why can’t frumpy be the new hot in my case??

 020408_pwilliams_400x400.jpg

Pharrell Williams - “Fashion has to reflect who you are, what you feel at the moment, and where you’re going. It doesn’t have to be bright, doesn’t have to be loud. Just has to be you.” Well said, Mr. Williams. Well said.

So, all you men out there.. All of you have that GQ quality inside of you. Just give him a hard shake and wake him up already!

5 Tips for Choosing The Right Style for You

Published by shemah under Fashion Tips Edit This

Trying to jazz up your style from your norm of jeans and t-shirts can be quite frustrating especially for those who have no idea where to begin. Trust me, I’ve been there. Thanks to the loads of fashion magazines that were my style bible, I managed to find my own style and my own identity without looking like a) I’m trying too hard, b) I’ve just come out of a bad photo shoot c) the 60’s all the way to the 90’s exploded on me in an attempt to go vintage.

After going through flashbacks and all my magazines, I find that these are the best 5 steps that helped ME pull out of my frumpy stupor and onto the trendy map.

1) Comfort is key. I’m not talking about the fact that the clothes must be comfortable i.e. the oldest t-shirt you have in your closet. I’m talking about the fact that you need to be comfortable with who you are as a person. One just can’t go all punk rock when the person inside you is rapping to hip hop music. See what I mean? Or else you’ll be disconnected with the style you choose and the REAL you won’t shine through.

2) Know your body shape. Knowing your body shape is a great way to get your “makeover” ball rolling. Without knowing your body shape, you wouldn’t know what style of clothes that are most suitable and the most flattering for you. For instance, I am pear shaped. So I know that I need to avoid clothes that draw attention to my hips like cropped tops paired with skinny jeans. LOL! Now THAT’s a hideous vision, if I ever saw one.

If you don’t know your body shape, what can help you to determine your shape is to disrobe in front of a mirror. Lightly trace your body’s outline on the mirror and you’ll get a rough idea. Whether it’s round, like an apple, or pear like, or hour glassed figure, etc.

3) Latest trends aren’t always for you. When you see a certain trend, let’s take high waisted pants for example. You see them everywhere.. on the runway, on celebrities, in stores - screaming out for you, do note that, it is not necessarily right for you. You have to take into account your body shape and whether or not it is flattering on you. I’m not saying you CAN’T try it out, but you don’t have to feel pressured to stay with the latest trends just for the sake of being “current”. Trends come and go, style lasts forever.

4) Determine your interests. List down where the majority of your interests lie. Do you prefer to hang out at underground rock music scenes or are you more into chilling out at lounges and listen to jazz? Do you like to go for art fairs and go antique shopping or are you more of a Rodeo Drive kind of shopper? Knowing what you’re into plays a huge part in determining your style factor. If you’re the kind of person who likes everything, then all the better for you. Your style can vary from day to day and you’ll be comfortable either way.

5) Don’t be afraid to try something new. Choosing the unknown over the known can sometimes be surprisingly pleasant. Try new colors. When I wanted to change my style, I checked out my wardrobe and noticed that I had stuck to mainly neutral and earthy colors. Really boring stuff. After adding a little bit more color in my wardrobe, it seems like it has also brought on a transformation to my life. It really feels like my life has more “pazzazz” right now!

So those are my 5 Tips in Choosing the Right Style for you. Sure there are plenty more tips I can give out, but I believe that once you follow these 5 tips from the beginning, you’ll be more prepared to choose a new style for yourself. In doing so, once you’ve changed your style, you’ll be more confident in adapting to a newer you! It won’t be so difficult to handle after all!

Good luck!

Love,
S.

The Birth of the Accidental Fashionista

Published by shemah under Women's Fashion Edit This

How can one become an Accidental Fashionista?

Well, let me start with a story. Once upon a time, this young woman used to be the life of the party. During high school, she was outgoing and friendly. She was considered popular among her friends. Although definitely not for her fashion sense. Her style…. had a lot less to be desired.

Fast forward some 10 years later…

She has a wonderful husband, two children and still absolutely NO fashion sense. She loves to check out fashion magazines but never had the courage to pull it off herself. This woman - who was once the life of a party.. ended up a frumpy shlumpadinka. *gasp*

So one day, she had the epiphany to just rummage through her wardrobe, together with her mom’s vintage clothings and accessories, and ended up rockin’ her new style! Those who saw her were amazed and complimented her on how she looks better.. and she’s been trying to style up her fashion ever since.

Say goodbye to Frumpy Shlumpadinka Mom and hello to the Accidental Fashionista!!!

So I created this blog with the purpose of dedicating it to making every man and woman, no matter what age, profession, budget or size, believe in themselves enough to get started on looking and feeling better - inside out.

This below, could definitely be you!

For those crazy for fashion with an immense amount of self confidence, you too are absolutely welcome here to read and share what YOU know with all Accidental Fashionista readers.

Stay tuned for more beauty and fashion tips!!

Love,
S.
